Aloha,
This
has been a great week. We held our
District Meeting at the Makakilo Stake center on the 25th. When we separated into Districts, Elder
Howard conducted our class on a video we watched entitled "Voices"
from a talk by Elder James E. Faust. We
are surrounded by so many voices that can sway us from doing what we are called
to do. We must learn to filter out
noise and be able to discern the quiet, peaceful and subtle voice of the
spirit. In D&C 42:6 & 14 we
learn unless we have the spirit we should not teach. Many times we will have an "aha"
moment wondering where that came from.
If we live with faith as in the Indiana Jones movie where he took that
leap of faith... think what is possible.
After our meeting we fed the missionaries because it was the last
meeting of the month and no $$$. We had
sloppy joes, chips, green salad and cookies.
Wednesday
we visited in the Kaelaloa Ward and met Sister Gomes and her mother. Sister Gomes is in the Stake Relief Society
Pesidency. We then visited Sis
Iona. She attends the Kaelaloa Ward but
her husband attends the Samaoan Ward.
She was the oldest of 11 children and cared for her parents until they
passed. She has one daughter living in
Utah. She sent us home with a big plate
of food.
Thursday
was a very busy day at the temple. I was
taught a few new responsibilities today and was also able to escort a sister to
her sealing with her husband. We
cleaned out our lockers because the temple will be closed July 1-15th. Afterwards, we met up with Adam Weight, Sis.
McGiven's son-in-law who is married to Julie.
We took him to the Kahuku Grill for some of their famous coconut shrimp
and the other Sister's Tisdel and Fielding joined us along with Sister Toli whom
we brought to the temple. Adam was here on business and was leaving that night.
President
Warner and his wife arrived today June 28th.
They met with the Daltons' to hand over the mission reigns. The Daltons' left for CA on Sunday. We meet the new mission president and his
wife tomorrow for interviews which is July 3rd.
Saturday
afternoon we had dinner with the Mafi family to celebrate the homecoming of
their daughter from the California San Bernadino mission. We were able to visit
with many from the Stake.
On
Sunday, we were asked to teach "The Plan of Salvation" to the Young
Women in their meeting this coming Friday.
On the 7th we will be teaching about missionary work in the Waianae 1st
Relief Society. We had a change in our
Branch Presidency this past Sunday. Bro.
Totau was released as 1st counselor.
Bro. Lau the 2nd counselor was sustained as the 1st counselor and Bro.
Vakauta was sustained as the 2nd counselor.
Stay tuned for a new calling for Bro. Totau. He was quite the dynamic force in the
Branch.
Monday,
JULY 1st... we were really busy getting prepared for the week. We bought fruit, cookies, rolls and then
made a jell-o salad to help feed the missionaries on Tuesday for our District meeting. The Elam's wanted to do a turkey dinner and
asked us to help. Pretty good being fed
two weeks in a row!
We
held our District meeting in Waianae today.
Elder Bailey conducted and we sang The Star Spangled Banner and then did
the Pledge of Allegiance. The Zone leaders said we had 159 baptisms, but they
were still calculating the new records for baptisms. Even if we don't hit "Vision 200",
it will still be a high water mark for the mission. The Zone leaders met w/ President Warner and
his wife yesterday and said they were "cool.' He said... he wants us to focus on Christ like
attributes and start with faith. These
are the rules he never wants broken.
1) Never be alone... be in sight
or sound of your companion. 2) Never lie, but be straight up in your
personal life and do accurate accounting.
3) Don't do anything stupid! That might be the hardest to fulfill. Your morning study will help win the battle
and help you to be successful in life when you return home. What do you need to do to be sanctified??? Be subdued to hear the spirit, read the Book
of Mormon 30 minutes each day.
Yeah! We finally received the Ensigns' for June and
July. When we split into our districts,
Elder Devore focused on "Teaching Skills." We watched 2 teaching videos and then
critiqued them. We broke into groups and
practiced teaching skills. We were w/ the
Elams' but mainly discussed our trials in the field and our focus. After our meeting we served the missionaries
their turkey dinner w/ turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, string beans, yams, cranberries,
jell-o, fruit,rolls and cookies. There
were 22 of us.
My
grand-daughter Zoe loves to send her grandmother things from her iPod. She sent me a couple of cute videos. London 4, doing a cheer and Wyatt 7,
doing a head twisting dance. My
mind went blank! They were fun to watch
their antics.
I
wish everyone a beautiful 4th of July and am truly thankful for the freedoms we
still maintain.
