Here
it is the 24th of July or in Utah "Pioneer Day". We (the M&M Sisters') did talk about some
of our pioneer ancestors and the part they played in the Salt Lake Valley.
Joseph Lee Robinson was a patriarch who traveled around giving blessings. Our side (Rose) came from his 5th wife. Polygamy was a commandment they lived in his
day instituted by the Lord.
We
also attended the temple as patrons on the 24th. We ate lunch at Lei Lei's in Turtle Bay and
took this picture of the new stop sign color.
What do you think? We then worked
our 5 hour shift Thursday in the temple.
On
Friday, I had to go to the dentist and have a new filling. I wondered if I would have any tooth left by
the time she quit drilling. That night
we stopped by Nanakuli Park to check on our Branch. They were camping out the 26-31st. ***I will tell a cute story in next weeks
blog about Bro. Totau (in green shirt) and his frying food. No! We
did not camp out with them... we were the smart ones!
On
Saturday, we spent the day with Bro. and Sis. Elam and toured the island. It was such a fun day and we got to see
things we didn't even know about.
Our
first stop was at the "birthing rocks" where the women came to give
birth. They had 18 priests who would
watch to see who was the next king. The
baby had to be born on a certain day and time.
If a king was born, they took the child and raised him. The mother would not see him again until he
was 18. More information can be found on
u-tube.
Our next stop was on the north
shore. We went "Pu'uo Mahuka
Heiau" which was a temple site high up in the mountains. Just think of all the labor it took to carry
all the rocks for the temple formation.
In one photo you can see the offerings left for their gods. In the stones around the temple base you
could also see prayer rocks that were left.
As we walked around the outer walls it took us to a look out. I took a picture of Waimea Cove from the
overlook.
In
La'ia, we were able to go to another look-out that was just beautiful. I am still trying to get a picture from Sis
Elam. There was a rock formation that
had a big hole out in the water. Some
young people were jumping off a cliff and landing in the water about 30'
down. Quite impressive. I don't know thier exit plan, but hopefully
they had one. We stopped for lunch at
the North Shore Taco.
We
kept heading north around the Island until we reached the "Valley of the
Gods." It is a beautiful cemetery
that has different religious areas. We
went to the Buddhist Temple and here you will see a picture of Buddha and the
unique temple. They had a koi pond going
around the grounds. It was quite
peaceful.
It
was such an enjoyable day to go out with another Senior couple to see the
sights on the Island.
Sunday
we spoke in Waianae 1st Ward Relief Society on Missionary work, retention and
how to be a friend. It was a great
day. The Sister who gave the closing
prayer asked that we would be able to take the "Aloha" spirit home with us. That really choked me up.
On
Monday, we found out who the Sisters are who will be taking our place. Sis. Erickson is from Rainier, Oregon and
Sis. Blaser is from Chandler, Arizona. They enter the MTC on August 5th and fly
to Honolulu on the 10th. They will stay
in Honolulu until we pick them up on the 16th.
Sis. McGiven has family coming in to stay with us on Aug. 7-13. We only have a couch and a cot.
***This is the story I wanted to tell about
Bro. Totau. We went out to have FHE with
the Branch. They said come at 6. We should always add 2 hours to their
time. Anyway, we were sitting on a wall
watching him fry up chicken and then lamb.
All of a sudden, he is pulling out these white things. From where I was
watching... I said, "are you frying bananas?" He laughed and said "yeah, frying
bananas!", but they turned out to be these white sausages!" I sure make them laugh.
My
daughter Michelle and her husband Mark stopped at my mom's on their way back to
Redding, CA from Lake Tapps.
She is
sitting by my mom and then there is a picture of her and Mark.
My son Jared, Heather and his two boys,
Emmett and Eli stopped to see my mom on their way to vacation at Lake Tapps and
the Seattle area.
The boys are also with
cousins, Michael and Arianna Monson.
As
they went over the mountain pass from Yakima, they stopped for a picture in the
beautiful flowers.
All the kids do work
at Lake Tapps and guests....
Jared just finished washing windows and was now
spraying for bugs. All the guests worked
in the yard, SO a BIG THANK YOU.
My
grandson Van lost his 2nd tooth and...
Wyatt is mowing their lawn by himself for the first time. He is 7.
Little Emmett is having his picture taken in
Port Townsend on one of the family excursions.
Our
district meeting was held in Makakilo on Tuesday July 30th. The month of August we will be known as the
"Makakilo Crusaders." After
our motivation exercise, we had our District meeting. Elder Bailey and Elder Langi talked about
"CREATE".
The
C=Counsel. We need to listen to the
still small voice to do the Lord's work.

The
R=Recognize. From PMG pg. 89-90 we know
we must study, seek, knock and receive.
We must study it out in our mind and if it is right we will get a warm

The
E=Experience. They talked about Joseph Smith's experiences in Liberty
jail. D&C 122:7
The
A=Attitude. They quoted Pres. Monson... "If
we are happy or unhappy... we are in charge of our attitude."
The
T=Time. Which we ran out of... so here
are the references: PMG pg. 54-55. Use time wisely.
The
E=Evaluate. PMG pg. 27. To make sure we are moving forward, we need
to evaluate our life and see if we are making progress.
I
will close with the definition of an optimist:
"Someone who isn't sure whether life is a tragedy or a comedy, but
